After reading light novels countless times, I feel that only volume 11 would deserve it's own season, since there are so many details of dwarves and the underground cities. Nazarick is just too powerful that the new worlders can almost do nothing, unless the whole world unites. In my opinion, that is the reason why the author wants to end it and write a new one. He probably learned a bunch of things writing Overlord and want it to apply in his future works. Overlord is a good isekai novel. I just finished reading volume 12 of the light novel. The 13th volume is coming out later this month, so I'm fine waiting for that. Volume 14, however, won't be out for a while. The anime was based directly off of the Light Novel, and surprisingly came first. So the LN skipped the manga adaptation phase and went straight to anime adaptation.
